Driver’s License requirements

Do we have age requirements to hire a vehicle?

You must be over the age of 21 and hold a valid driver’s license (Learner and provisional driver license holders are not accepted).

Providing you are over the age of 21 you can hire any car in our fleet.

Drivers under the age of 21 cannot hire a vehicle.

Can I use an international licence?

Yes, we accept international drivers’ licenses providing they include the following:

  • The license has a photo and signature of the license holder.
  • If the license is not in English, you will need to provided and English transcript.
  • Driving permits are not accepted.

Can I use a digital driver’s licence?

Yes, we can accept a digital drivers licence.

Who is allowed to drive the rental vehicle?

Only individuals listed on the rental agreement are permitted to operate the rental vehicle. Additional drivers may be added for a fee of $10 per day.

To add a driver, please contact our office at 0435 953 969. This can be done at any time during the rental period.

Please note: If an accident occurs and the vehicle is being driven by someone not listed on the rental agreement, the rental contract will be deemed void. In such cases, the renter will be held fully responsible for all repair costs incurred.

Payment, Fees and Bonds

What is a pre-authorisation?

A pre-authorisation is a temporary transaction were a set amount of funds from your nominated bank debit or credit card is put on hold. A pre-authorisation amount is frozen in your account in case we have to process payments for damages that have occurred to the vehicle, or the car is returned without a full tank of fuel etc.

When will my bond be released?

We release the bond as soon as the vehicle is returned safely back to our depo (providing the rental terms and conditions have been met).

Once we have released the bond it is up to your banking institution to release the bonds in your bank account. This may take up to 30 days depending on your banking institution.

How can I pay for my reservation?

We require all payments to be made in full via our online booking system to confirm ALL bookings.

Please note that we need a physical copy of your credit/debit card at the time of collection to pay the bond.

How much is the bond?

A bond is required on all rental vehicles at Boyds Bay Car Rentals. Bonds for all rental cars is $1,000 and bonds for trailers is $200.

Will I be charged a cancelation fee?

All cancellations require 48 hours notice prior to your booking to avoid cancellation fees. Any cancellations within the 48 hour notice period will be subjected to a fixed $80 cancellation fee.

What are the bank / credit card requirements?

  • Your Visa or Master credit or debit card must be valid and available at time of collection.
  • We will only accept the card with the hirers name on it.
  • If you cannot present a card with the hirers name on it you will need to contact us prior to collection.
  • You must have your physical card present at time of collection.

Please note we do not accept gift cards, eftpos cards, American express, apple pay, tap and go, afterpay or zip pay.

Pick up location and operating hours

Can I get transport to and from the Gold Coast Airport?

We offer a pickup and drop off service between our Boyds Bay Car Rentals depot and Gold Coast Airport (max. of 4 people) between 7am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 7am-1pm Friday. After hours, Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday is by appointment only.

How far away is the Boyds Bay Car Rentals depot from the airport?

Our Depot is located at 1/48 Ourimbah Road, Tweed Heads (operating out of Boyds Bay Garage).

We are an approximate 7-minute drive between the airport and our depot.

What happens if I return a vehicle late?

If you are running late you will need to contact our office to notify us.

If you return the vehicle back to our depot 2 hours later or beyond your original drop off time you will be charged an additional day as per your agreement.

Can I pick up and drop off after hours?

Vehicle pick up and drop off can be arranged for after hours. You will need to contact our office on 0435 953 969 to arrange your booking.

Can I drop a vehicle off at a different location?

No, we are only based in Tweed Heads on the Gold Coast. Vehicles must be returned to our depot.

What insurance packages do you offer?

We have 2 packages that can reduce your standard excess. They can be selected when booking your vehicle.

Do I still need to pay the liability amount even though I may not be at fault?

Yes, you are still liable for any damages until the third party has accepted liability and we have received payment from them.

 

Fines, tolls and other fees and charges

How do I pay for road tolls?

When renting a Boyds Bay Garage vehicle you are responsible for any tolls charges that are incurred during the rental period.

We process your toll fees to your nominated credit / debit card along with an administration fee per toll transaction.

Can I use my own toll account?

No, you cannot use your own toll account. As it is a commercial vehicle, tolls will not show up on the public record.

If you use your LinkT accessory, it may result in a double charge.

What happens if I receive an infringement?

If you receive any traffic infringements during the rental period, the driver listed on our agreement will be nominated as the driver responsible. It is then your responsibility to pay the infringement. Each infringement will incur a $99 administration fee.

Road Assistance and Damage

What happens if I need roadside assistance?

Boyds Bay Car Rentals includes 24 hour 7 day a week roadside assistance for any mechanical faults that may occur during your rental. Roadside assistance is included in our premium packages. In the event that you require roadside assistance, please contact our staff on 0435953969.

Can we use our rental to tow?

No. None of our vehicles can be used for towing.

Do we need to refuel our rental?

Boyds Bay Car Rentals always come with a full tank of fuel upon collection. You must return your rental with a full tank after the rental period.

If you do not return the vehicle with a full tank of fuel you will be charged a $35 admin fee as well as fuel charge for every litre until the tank is full.

Can I request a certain make and model?

Our online booking system lists every car we have for rent. You can select what make and model you like providing the vehicle is available at the date and times you have selected.

Can I smoke in a rental vehicle?

No, you are not allowed to smoke in our rental vehicles. If the car smells of smoke when it is returned you will be charged the appropriate cleaning fees to remove the smell from the vehicle.

Optional Extras

Baby & booster seats

Baby and booster seats can be booked while you are booking your hire vehicle. Baby seats are an additional cost of $5 per seat per day.

Unfortunately, we are unable to assist with fitting the seat. You as the driver of the vehicle are responsible for the appropriate baby seat for your child as well as the fitting of the baby seat.
